The London Wetland Centre is situated in the suburb of Barnes near The Rockwell Hotel.
Wetland Centre's are devoted to preserving the naturally occurring marshy areas that have been conserved for the benefit of the unique wildlife they foster.
Therefore it is very surprising to find a marshy area that has survived so near to central London. Nevertheless, many species seem to be flourishing there. In particular there has been an increase in the number of otters over recent years, which is a sure sign that the river Thames is getting cleaner. There are also plenty of ducks, geese and swans from around the globe wandering about.
Visiting the centre is absolutely free and a great way to unwind from the hustle and bustle of the city.
It is only open during the summer months and is well worth a visit.
