'Olympics Opening Ceremony'
3rd Jul 2012
The Olympic opening ceremony has been the subject of much speculation over the recent weeks. After the spectacle of the London Mayor, Boris Johnson, receiving the torch in Beijing in a ceremony that was thought of as being badly planned and laughably executed, the opening ceremony is already being panned by some critics, many of whom are convinced it will be another national embarrassment. Film director Danny Boyle (of Slumdog Millionaire fame) is planning a ceremony, which will encapsulate his vision of modern Britain (a very difficult thing to attempt in a society full of contradicitions). However we do know that the opening ceremony will contain stage set of a large field complete with live animals, a mosh pit, James Bond and Sir Paul McCartney. The film director has said that no matter what he does he will not be able to compete with ceremony at the Beijing Olympics. However, it promises to be a memorable event and seems likely to be full off surprises. The cost of staging it is £27m and the event is likely to be watched by 1bn people.
